I have not yet seen it, but one of my favorite musical instruments to play is the Maddalaya. The word Maddala is derived from a Tamil word.  Maddala is known as the Tamil drum.  This takes the shape of a drum. This is made up of two small and large drum faces. 

 Maddala is a percussion instrument.  This is used for dramas.  Maddala is also a popular instrument in Sri Lanka.  It is a major percussion instrument in South Indian music.  This sits and plays.  Men mostly play. This is not yet a musical instrument taught to be played in Sri Lankan schools. As such, very few children in Sri Lanka are drawn to play this. This is one of the most popular musical instruments played at small festivals held in various parts of Sri Lanka.
